A Puryn water softener is a tank of ion-exchange resin fitted where water enters the building. It takes out the calcium and magnesium that scale geysers, taps and showers, and it regenerates with common salt. Five manual sizes from 1,000 to 9,000 LPH; automatic from 1,000 to 6,000 LPH. You need one when hardness is above 200 mg/L, the IS 10500 acceptable limit, and your lab report tells you if yours is.

Hardness changes the salt, not the size. Size the softener by how many taps run at once. Your hardness decides how often it regenerates and how much salt it uses.
What are the signs of hard water?
Four signs: white scale on taps and showers, spots on utensils and tiles, dry skin and stiff hair, and geysers and washing machines that fail early. Orange stains or a salty taste are different problems with different fixes.

We test hardness, TDS, iron and pH at your tap for free, and count how many outlets run at once. If your hardness is under 200 mg/L we will tell you that you do not need a softener.
Do you actually need a softener?
A softener is a plumbing fix for hard water, not a drinking-water treatment. Under IS 10500:2012 the acceptable limit for total hardness is 200 mg/L as CaCO3, and 600 mg/L is the outer limit where no other source exists. Below 200 you generally do not need one. Between 200 and 400 you will see scale and stiff laundry. Above 400 the damage to geysers and washing machines is fast.

What size softener do I need?
Size by your peak flow: how many showers and taps run at the same time. 1,000 LPH is about 16.7 litres a minute, enough for one shower and a tap together. A shower draws 8 to 10 litres a minute, a tap 4 to 6. Your hardness then decides how often it regenerates, not which size you buy.

Who runs the regeneration?
Both use the same resin and salt. The difference is who starts the regeneration. If it works out to once a week or less, manual is fine. If your water needs it every two or three days, automatic saves you from forgetting.

How often will it regenerate, and how much salt?
Move the sliders. Your hardness and the number of people decide how many days you get between regenerations and how much salt you use in a month.
How it works: standard softening resin takes up about 55 g of hardness (as CaCO3) per litre before it needs salt, so litres between regenerations = resin litres × 55,000 ÷ hardness. Daily use is the BIS / CPHEEO norm of 135 litres a person. Salt per regeneration is from the Puryn manual softener specifications. Real figures depend on your water and habits; we confirm them with your lab report.

Put the iron remover first
Iron fouls softening resin and shortens its life. A softener removes only a little iron, at the cost of the resin. Where water stains sinks orange, an iron removal stage belongs before the softener, not instead of it. Acidic water gets pH correction before both.
Installed where the water enters the house
The softener sits on the line from the pump to the overhead tank, so every tap, shower and appliance gets soft water. Our technicians fit it with a bypass, so water keeps flowing during regeneration and service.

Frequently asked questions
What exactly is hard water?
Water with high dissolved calcium and magnesium. It leaves white scale on taps and appliances and makes soap less effective. IS 10500 sets the acceptable limit at 200 mg/L as CaCO3.
Can I drink softened water?
A softener swaps calcium and magnesium for sodium, so softened water carries a little more sodium and is not treated for bacteria, nitrate or dissolved solids. Soften the house supply and use a Puryn purifier (e1 to e6) for drinking water.
Will a softener reduce my TDS?
No. It exchanges one set of ions for another, so total dissolved solids stay about the same. For high TDS or a salty taste you need RO.
What size softener do I need?
Size by peak flow: 1,000 LPH covers one shower and a tap at once, 2,000 LPH two or three bathrooms with some overlap, 3,000 LPH a larger home, and 6,000 to 9,000 LPH apartment blocks and businesses. Your hardness then decides how often it regenerates.
Manual or automatic: which should I choose?
If your softener needs regenerating about once a week or less, manual is fine. If your water is hard enough to need it every two or three days, automatic saves you from forgetting. Automatic is available from 1,000 to 6,000 LPH.
How much salt will I use?
Each regeneration uses 4 kg of common salt on the 1,000 LPH model and up to 30 kg on the 9,000 LPH model. How often it regenerates depends on your hardness and use; the running-cost calculator on this page gives a monthly estimate.
Does a softener remove iron?
Only a little, and iron fouls the resin. Where water stains orange, fit an iron remover before the softener.
How long does the resin last?
Good resin typically lasts three to five years, less if iron or chlorine reaches it. When it stops softening after a proper regeneration, we replace the resin and keep the vessel.
Is a bigger softener always better?
No. An oversized unit costs more and can sit too long between regenerations. Size it to your measured hardness and real peak flow.
How does the lab test work?
You get two lab reports: a pre-treatment report before we recommend anything and a post-treatment report after installation. Both, worth ₹2,000, are included in the price of your system. You pay ₹1,000 when we take the first sample, and it is adjusted when you order. For example, on a ₹65,000 system you pay the remaining ₹64,000.
