Yellow borewell water is almost always dissolved iron. For most homes a Puryn iron remover takes it out with a bed of MnO2-coated catalytic media: no salt, no cartridges. Above about 2 mg/L of iron we add air injection. If the water is acidic we correct the pH first, and for apartments, factories and RO plants we oxidise and filter the iron ahead of the plant. Your lab report tells us which of these you need.
Size by your water and your pump, not your house. Iron level and pH decide the system. Your borewell pump also has to push about 40 litres a minute for the backwash, so we measure the flow during the test.
Six signs: water that turns yellow after it stands, orange stains, a rotten-egg smell, black specks, blue-green stains, and water that leaves a filter clear but turns hazy in the tank. Each one points to a different fix.
Clear from the tap, yellow by evening. Buckets fill with orange sediment.
On tiles, sinks, buckets and white clothes, and they come back after cleaning.
Strongest from hot water and stored water. Often comes with iron.
Tiny black bits in the water, dark marks on basins. Usually manganese.
Turquoise marks under taps, pinhole leaks, corroded fittings.
Your existing filter outlet looks fine, but the sump or overhead tank turns cloudy.
At your borewell we check iron, pH, hardness, TDS and turbidity, plus pump pressure and flow. Both lab reports are included in your price. When the numbers decide a bigger job, we send a sample to a testing lab in Surathkal and explain the report line by line.
IS 10500:2012 sets the acceptable limit for iron in drinking water at 0.3 mg/L, with no relaxation. That is also roughly where orange stains and a metallic taste begin. Some local lab reports print 1.0 mg/L as the limit; we go by 0.3. Packaged drinking water must stay under 0.1 mg/L under IS 14543. Some Mangaluru wells run far above both.

For drinking water, an iron remover is not enough on its own. Add a Puryn purifier (e1 to e6) on the kitchen line.
All three run on the same 13 × 54 inch FRP vessel and catalytic media, rated at 1,000 litres an hour. The difference is how the bed gets cleaned and whether air goes in first. Our technician picks the model from your iron level and how much attention the unit will get.

1,000 litres an hour is enough for a house with several taps running at once. It is the flow the media is sized for, not a target your pump must hit.
During the wash your pump has to lift the bed and flush the iron out. A 13 × 54 vessel needs about 2.4 m³/h, roughly 40 litres a minute. A weaker pump leaves iron in the bed, which is why we measure it.
A venturi draws air into the line so dissolved iron starts turning into particles before it reaches the tank. We add it where iron runs above about 2 mg/L.
The iron remover sits between the borewell pump and the overhead tank, so every tap in the house gets treated water. Our technicians fit it with bypass piping, so water keeps flowing while the unit is serviced.
Want to see how it goes in? WhatsApp us a photo of your pump line and we will mark where the unit goes.
On bigger sites the iron problem shows up in tanks, membranes and product water. The fix is the same chemistry at a larger scale: turn the dissolved iron into particles, give it time, then filter it out.
An automatic iron remover on the borewell line to the sump or overhead tank, so every flat gets clear water and nobody has to remember to backwash.
Talk to us about a building →Iron fouls RO membranes, and packaged drinking water must stay under 0.1 mg/L. We dose chlorine or inject air, hold the water for contact time, filter it through media, then carbon before the RO.
Industrial RO plants →Iron stains products, blocks nozzles and scales heat exchangers. We size the vessels and backwash to your flow, and can replace the media in filters you already have.
Filter media replacement →That is dissolved iron passing straight through and turning to rust once it meets air in the tank. A bigger filter will not fix it. The iron has to be oxidised first, with chlorine dosing or air plus a contact vessel, and filtered after that. We diagnosed exactly this at a packaged drinking water plant in Dakshina Kannada in October 2026.
Have a lab report already? WhatsApp a photo of it. A person from our water team reads it and tells you the system, the order of the stages and what it will need at your site.
A photo or PDF of the lab report, or just tell us what you see: colour, stains, smell.
A real person, not a bot. We check iron, pH, hardness and turbidity together.
Which system, in what order, and a lab test of your water to confirm it before any quote.
We test iron, pH, hardness and turbidity, measure your pump flow, and then recommend a system. Both lab reports are included in your price.
Yes. A catalytic iron remover installed on the line from the borewell pump to the overhead tank takes out dissolved iron and manganese and reduces the rotten-egg smell, for every tap in the house. High iron gets air injection ahead of it, and acidic water gets pH correction first.
For most homes the iron remover alone is enough. Where iron is above about 2 mg/L we add air injection ahead of the tank. Very high iron, or iron with acidic water, gets an oxidation or pH stage first. We size it from your test, not from a chart.
The iron is still dissolved when it passes the filter, so the filter cannot catch it. It turns to rust once it meets air in the tank. The fix is to oxidise the iron before the filter, with air injection or chlorine dosing, and give it time to react.
No. It treats water for bathing, washing and cleaning. For drinking water, add a Puryn purifier (e1 to e6) on the kitchen line.
Not for most homes. The iron remover uses catalytic media, with nothing to top up. Acidic water needs soda ash for pH correction, and some business plants use chlorine dosing ahead of the filter.
It depends on your iron level and how much water you use. Our technician sets the schedule after the test. The automatic model does it on its own; on the manual model you turn one handle.
No. An iron remover deals with iron, manganese and smell. A softener deals with hardness, the white scale on taps and geysers. Many borewells need both, with the iron remover first.
The manual iron remover carries a 2-year warranty. The automatic iron remover, with or without air injection, carries a 5-year unconditional warranty. Register your unit at puryn.in/warranty after installation.

You get two lab reports: a pre-treatment report before we recommend anything and a post-treatment report after installation. Both, worth ₹2,000, are included in the price of your system. You pay ₹1,000 when we take the first sample, and it is adjusted when you order. For example, on a ₹65,000 system you pay the remaining ₹64,000.
